Remembering Fritz Hessemer

On Tuesday, June 11 there was a brief ceremony to unveil the stone paver to honor Fritz Hessemer's extraordinary connection with Falmouth students of all ages. Fritz served as a Senior Teacher through the inter-generational program between OceanView and the Falmouth Schools.

FHS students performed music with the audience singing along. We also threw a fleet of paper airplanes.

Fritz made a very special paper airplane. It was a design taught to him in 1938 by his grandfather during one of their few times together. Fritz’s grandfather, Paul Hessemer was born in 1853. Fritz delighted in talking to the children about his grandfather and showing them precisely how to make this plane. His grandfather’s plane design will continue to be carried forward. Hundreds of Falmouth children and teens now know how to make his paper airplane, a man born 166 years ago.

If you want to learn more about how you can honor a special community member or relative with paver at FHS, or purchase a paver for your own student or family, please visit our website.
